Can I take my dog on the train from the UK to France?
The current Eurostar rule and practical alternatives for travelling with a dog.
Ordinary pet dogs cannot travel on Eurostar trains to or from London, including small dogs in carriers. The operator has separate arrangements for guide and assistance animals. Check Eurostar's current pet policy if that exception applies to you.
A dog can travel through the Channel Tunnel in a vehicle on LeShuttle. That is a different service from boarding a Eurostar passenger train.
Eurostar and LeShuttle are different journeys
Eurostar from London
Eurostar carries passengers on its London services. Its ordinary-pet restriction means that a carrier, a small dog or a separate passenger ticket does not solve the problem. Pet policies on other Eurostar routes should not be taken as permission for London travel.
LeShuttle with a vehicle
LeShuttle transports road vehicles between the Folkestone and Calais terminals. You need a suitable vehicle journey, not a foot-passenger ticket. Read the operator's pet booking guidance before arranging your crossing.
If you drive, you can continue towards your French destination in your own vehicle. If you do not, a pre-arranged private pet taxi may provide the road journey.
Your options without a car
A private pet taxi can be arranged around your collection and destination addresses. Include everyone travelling, the dog and any luggage so that the vehicle requirements are clear.
You can also investigate ferry routes, but obtain explicit confirmation that the selected sailing accepts foot passengers with dogs. Pet accommodation for motorists does not establish foot-passenger acceptance. Check connections on both sides of the Channel.

Keep the return journey in the plan

Can a small dog travel in a bag on Eurostar from London?
No. The ordinary-pet restriction applies even if the dog fits in a carrier.
Can I walk onto LeShuttle with my dog?
No. LeShuttle is a vehicle service. Arrange the complete vehicle crossing before travelling to the terminal.
Can my dog use the assistance-animal exception?
That depends on the operator's eligibility and approval process. Contact Eurostar directly; being a pet that provides comfort does not itself confirm acceptance.
Is a local taxi enough for the crossing?
Only if the operator has agreed to provide the complete journey with the appropriate booking. Do not assume a taxi hired at a station will cross the Channel.
